Introduction – Lily

Who am I to start writing about health and losing weight?  I am just another person who has gone through the struggle of losing weight.  For me, I gained weight in college, but was able to lose all of it by exercising while still in my early 20s.  As I entered my 30s, exercise was not as effective as it had once been, and I started to get frustrated.  I didn’t like altering my diet, and I never had to before.  I thought I just wasn’t exercising enough.  I didn’t know what to do, so I exercised more.

I had heard that when trying to lose weight it was all about food.  Maintaining health and weight was all about exercise.  I didn’t want to believe it.  I kept on exercising more and more.  I could feel my body getting stronger.  I could tell I had more muscle and more endurance, but I was not losing weight.  I got very burned out.  It was exhausting.

Then after a break, I decided to start a food journal.  I tracked everything I ate.  I did this in an app on my phone.  I started to lose weight!!  I wasn’t exercising at all AND I was losing weight… A LOT OF WEIGHT.

I’m glad I learned all of this before I had my babies.  After my pregnancies (and in my 40s), I gained more weight than I ever thought I would.  Now that I know how to lose weight, I feel more in control of my body and my weight.

Don’t get me wrong.  It is not easy.  The power of hunger is very strong.  It is not easy to stop eating when you are still hungry.  The fact is though, just because you are hungry doesn’t mean you should eat.  It also doesn’t mean you are starving yourself.  You figure out how much food you actually need and choose healthy options.  Then you need to stick to it!

There are a lot of websites out there that give you information on how and why to lose weight.  On this website, our goal is to share information we have learned about health, losing weight, and other things that are fun and interesting.  Hopefully this will be a place that is motivating and supportive.  Please share stories, struggles, and successes with us.

Nothing on this website is intended to hurt anyone’s feelings or make anyone feel bad about themselves.  The focus is just to help people get healthy and understand how to do it.  It can be hard to learn that the things you’ve been doing to make yourself healthier are not working.  It can be hard to change.  Please be open and willing to have a conversation about it.

Losing weight is challenging and keeping it off is a constant battle.  Let’s support each other and do it together.
